Ok so my little brother bought the new Gorillaz: Plastic Beach album last week and I’ve been listening to it non stop. First let me say that it is a pretty good album with a couple of really standout tracks as well as a few so so track but most are pretty enjoyable. It is definitely more hip hop and rap infused then last time around and this is pretty evident when Snoop Dogg is featured on the second track. There are a lot of collaborations and some of it sounds pretty fun/energetic and not as dark as before. I feel like thats all good but not nearly as good as Demon Days. The stands out to me are On Melancholy Hill, Plastic Beach, Some kind of Nature, Empire Ants, and for some strange reason I really dig White Flag.
Anyways a clear message in the album is, you haven’t guessed from the name of the album, pollution and wasting energy. It’s a pretty smart album and they really make it a point to rap/sing/talk about a world of trash. Mostly the ocean filled with garbage. There is a strange relation in what is going on now in the gulf and I am sure that the Gorillaz didn’t foresee it while writing Plastic Beach. Still the relation is there and I think people should take that lesson to heart and treat the planet a bit more kind. Anyways good album, go buy it.
